New Pickleball Courts at Canal Winchester Set for Grand Opening

New Pickleball Courts at Canal Winchester: Canal Winchester is set to mark a milestone achievement with the upcoming grand opening of McGill Park’s pickleball courts on July 18. Located at 6725 Lithopolis-Winchester Road, the city will host a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. This event underlines the community’s dedication to developing recreational facilities, reflecting ongoing efforts that began with the park’s construction in 2021. With the initial phase unveiling in July 2022, featuring soccer fields, a nature-themed playground, walking trails, and more, the addition of pickleball courts fulfills a crucial demand voiced by residents.

 

The city of Canal Winchester is getting ready for a grand opening of the McGill Park pickleball courts on July 18. At 5 p.m., city staff will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6725 Lithopolis-Winchester Road, marking the official launch of the new courts.

Mayor Joe Steager and Council President Will Bennett will take to the court for the opening game following the ceremony. in addition, the first 100 guests will receive custom pickleballs as a special giveaway from the city.

Construction of the expansive 84-acre started at McGill Park in 2021. The park’s initial section debuted in July 2022, featuring facilities like soccer fields, a nature-themed playground, walking trails, and an open shelter house. Work on the pickleball courts began earlier this year.

While planning for the park, city officials recognized that adding pickleball courts was a priority for the community, noted Mayor Joe Steager. Since construction began, residents have eagerly sought updates and often visited the park to monitor progress. These courts are expected to see significant use

“When planning for the park, we knew adding pickleball courts was a priority for our community,Since starting construction, people have been asking when they will be ready or stopping at the park to check on construction. I expect them to get a lot of use.”-( Mayor Joe Steager)

After the official opening, the pickleball courts will be accessible daily from dawn until 10 p.m., complete with lighting for evening play. Players must bring their own equipment as the five courts will function on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors are encouraged to be considerate of their playing time to allow fair access for everyone. Additionally, the city plans to introduce rental opportunities for special events later this year.

McGill Park’s development is ongoing, with future phases set to include additional attractions such as multipurpose fields, a dog park, and an event center.
