MLP Partners with DUPR for MiLP Amateur Events: Major League Pickleball (MLP) and Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) have teamed up to introduce a new dimension to amateur pickleball with the launch of Minor League Pickleball (MiLP) events.

This partnership marks a significant expansion of MLP’s offerings, integrating the high-energy experience of MLP’s professional leagues with amateur competitions. Starting in September, the inaugural MiLP event will take place in Virginia Beach, setting the stage for a series of amateur tournaments.

MLP and DUPR Join Forces

MLP CEO Bruce Popko described the partnership between MLP and DUPR as a highly valuable element of the MiLP at MLP amateur events launch.

He emphasized the importance of extending Major League Pickleball’s dynamic coed team format to amateur players. The collaboration aims to provide amateur enthusiasts with the opportunity to experience the excitement of MLP’s pro events, creating a bridge between professional and amateur levels.

Amateur Tournaments with a Professional Flair

DUPR CEO Tito Machado echoed the sentiment, highlighting the unique opportunity this partnership presents. “MLP’s professional events are known for their electric atmosphere for players and fans, and now we are excited to offer amateur players across the country the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete like pros in their regions and advance towards a national championship,” Machado said. The MiLP events will feature mixed teams of four (two women and two men), competing in games designed to reflect the coed format of MLP’s pro leagues.

Tournament Details and National Championship

The inaugural Minor League Pickleball event is scheduled for September 28-29 in Virginia Beach, VA, with subsequent tournaments planned in Miami, FL, and Orlando, FL. The winning teams at these events will earn a Dream Ticket, qualifying them for the 2024 Minor League Pickleball National Championship. This championship will be held at the Missouri Pickleball Club in Fenton, MO, from December 13-15, with a total prize pool of $50,000 across six divisions.

Event Registration and Future Prospects

Registration for these events will be managed through Pickleball Brackets, ensuring a streamlined process for participants. The MiLP format promises to enhance the competitive landscape for amateur pickleball, offering players new pathways to showcase their skills and engage with the broader pickleball community.
