Optimist Club Pickleball Tournament 2024 Set For Aug

Optimist Club Pickleball Tournament 2024: The Optimist Club of Coronado is gearing up for its annual pickleball tournament, scheduled for August 10-11. This eagerly anticipated event will take place at the Coronado Cays Tennis Courts, located on Coronado Cays Blvd. The tournament promises a competitive edge, featuring brackets for mixed doubles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles. With an entry fee of $50 per player and $100 per doubles team, participants can pay via check, credit, or debit card to the Coronado Optimist Club Foundation.

Bracket Breakdown and Past Winners

Players will compete in skill-based divisions, categorized as 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0. Last October’s tournament saw David Stone and Bruce Lowman claim victory in the 3.5 men’s doubles bracket, while Mark Seneker and Thierry Zerbib took the men’s 4.0 doubles title. In the women’s categories, Stacy Begin and Karen Lee won the 4.0 bracket, and Jennifer Packet and Heidi Droomgale emerged as the top team in the women’s 3.5 bracket.

A Platform for Community and Growth

Tournament director and organizer Dave Bean emphasized the sport’s inclusivity, noting, “The sport of pickleball gives us a wide audience of ages and skill levels to participate in, and it’s a very easy sport to pick up and doesn’t require a ton of money or time to learn. So we’re excited about the number of people it can bring out for the tournament.”

These events serve as crucial fundraisers for the Optimist Club, supporting their mission to empower young people in the Coronado community. The funds raised will benefit the Coronado Optimist Foundation, which supports over 50 academic, community, and leadership programs at Coronado High School and Middle School. Bean highlighted, “Our charter is to provide charter building and leadership development opportunities within the community from grade school all the way to high school and to include sporting events or sports teams and academic teams and academic-related activities.”

Registration and Future Outlook

With pickleball’s growing popularity, the Optimist Club anticipates a strong turnout and enthusiastic play. Registration remains open until August 6, with spots still available. “This is the fourth time we have had the tournament, and we are really excited about being back this season. At the time, there are still plenty of spots available for this year’s tournament,” Bean remarked.

The 2024 Optimist Club Pickleball Tournament promises to be a vibrant showcase of competitive spirit and community engagement.
