WRAC Pickleball Project In Wenatchee Moves Forward

WRAC Pickleball Project In Wenatchee: The Wenatchee Racquet and Athletic Club (WRAC) is taking a significant stride in its ten-year capital expansion plan with the advancement of a dedicated indoor pickleball facility. This $3 million project is set to introduce six state-of-the-art indoor pickleball courts at 1913 Skyline Dr, Wenatchee, offering year-round, climate-controlled play for enthusiasts of all levels.

Investment and Progress

A major milestone has been reached with the delivery of the pre-engineered metal building, an investment totaling $400,000. Currently staged west of the club’s upper facility parking lot, this structure represents a key component of the expansion. However, the project is still pending final approvals. A Conditional Use Permit hearing is slated for August 27, and building permit approval is anticipated by mid-September, with construction slated to commence in September and complete by Spring 2025.

Budget Adjustments and Regulatory Challenges

The project’s budget has risen nearly 20% due to new regulatory demands, including flood certifications, updates to state building and energy codes, and necessary HVAC upgrades to ensure consistent temperature control. Cascade Central Construction has been selected as the contractor, with Complete Design handling architecture and permitting, and Peoples Bank providing the necessary financing.

Member Support and Future Plans

WRAC officials are calling on members to support the project through pre-sales of memberships and sponsorships. This indoor pickleball facility marks the first phase of a broader expansion that includes future updates to outdoor pickleball courts and a new aquatic facility. Currently, WRAC offers eight pickleball courts through the shared use of two tennis courts. The new facility will not only boost the club’s capacity to host large tournaments but also potentially accommodate up to 22 indoor courts when combined with existing shared spaces.

A Strategic Move for Competitive Edge

WRAC views this expansion as essential for maintaining its competitive edge in the fitness and wellness sector. The new indoor pickleball facility is expected to enhance opportunities for active lifestyles throughout the Wenatchee Valley, reflecting the club’s commitment to evolving with the demands of its members and the broader community.
