Byram Local Joins The Indy Drivers: In a notable expansion of the professional sports landscape, Bernard LeBlanc of Byram, Mississippi, is making waves in the world of pickleball. LeBlanc, a 53-year-old Ole Miss graduate, has been drafted by The Indy Drivers, a professional pickleball team based in Indianapolis.

A New Sports Journey

Originally from the Caribbean Islands, LeBlanc relocated to Mississippi to attend Ole Miss, where he immersed himself in various sports including tennis, golf, and racquetball. However, it was pickleball that captured his heart.

“I hit the ball around and said, ‘Man, I could be good at that,’” LeBlanc recalled, reflecting on his first encounter with the sport. “I played him in singles and beat him, and I said, ‘Ok I’m going to play.’”

Rise to Professional Status

LeBlanc’s passion quickly translated into success as he competed in and won multiple pickleball tournaments. His performance against seasoned professionals paved the way for his entry into the professional ranks. Now, he is eager to contribute to The Indy Drivers and advance his career in the sport.

“Playing pro is nothing more different than playing around with your friends. It’s just a little bit more competitive. I was only playing personal sports. Tennis is one person on the court. Golf is one person, but being on the team right now is like a dream come true.” – (LeBlanc)

Proud Representation

LeBlanc will be the sole representative from Mississippi on the team, and he is enthusiastic about showing the state’s talent in pickleball.

“Being out there, I tell people that I’m from Mississippi and people wonder, saying I never knew anyone from Mississippi played pickleball. Representing Mississippi is really fun and the Jackson area is really cool.” – (LeBlanc)
