Virgil Pickleball Courts Set to Reopen from August 19 After Delays

Virgil Pickleball Courts Set to Reopen: After extensive preparation, the Virgil courts are ready to welcome pickleball enthusiasts to outdoor play starting August 19. The fence surrounding these courts has been reinforced, and sound panels have been installed to minimize noise for residents. This follows a significant delay caused by an issue with the strength of the wire fencing, which was resolved by installing more robust posts.

Challenges and Solutions

Town parks and recreation staff faced unforeseen challenges after the initial delivery of sound panels on June 28. The installation revealed that the existing fence could not support the panels, prompting a contractor from Stevensville Lawn Service Inc. to install larger fence posts and additional supports. Town communications coordinator Marah Minor noted that securing contractors during peak season had contributed to the delay. The final project cost will be reported in the year-end budget reconciliation.

Public and Club Access

Once completed, the courts will operate daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with slight variations on weekends. The Niagara-on-the-Lake Pickleball Club will share the courts with the public, adhering to a detailed schedule. Club members will manage daily opening and closing, while the lighting system will be controlled by timers.

Club’s Excitement and Invitation

Club board member Joy Sanguedolce expressed enthusiasm about the reopening, emphasizing the community aspect of pickleball.
