Lakewood Plans New Pickleball Courts to Transform Harry Todd Park

Lakewood Plans New Pickleball Courts: The Lakewood City Council has greenlit the development of new pickleball courts at Harry Todd Park, situated along the picturesque lakefront in the Tillicum neighborhood. The council agenda packet indicates that the construction of four courts will begin next year, with completion anticipated by fall 2025.

According to city documents, a grant from the Recreation and Conservation Office Youth Athletic Facilities Fund has secured funding totaling $700,000. Additionally, the council unanimously approved an $89,679 contract for design services with Robert W. Droll, Landscape Architect, and Associates.

Harry Todd Park, spreads across 17 acres, currently boasts a range of recreational amenities, including a swimming beach, fishing pier, boat docks, playground, bathrooms, two sports fields, and a picnic shelter. The new pickleball courts will be strategically located adjacent to the Commencement Bay Rowing Club building and North Thorne Lane Southwest.

The preliminary design features two adaptive courts alongside two competitive courts, enhancing accessibility and accommodating varying levels of play. Plans also include the construction of four accessible parking spots, an asphalt path linking the parking area to the courts, and an existing basketball court, per the site development plan.

This initiative shows Lakewood’s commitment to expanding recreational opportunities for residents, using  grant support to enhance community facilities at Harry Todd Park.
