Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns Win PPA Las Vegas Mixed Doubles Crown

Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns Win PPA Las Vegas: To suggest that Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns left Catherine Parenteau and Riley Newman with little room to maneuver on Championship Sunday would be a serious understatement. The top-ranked duo on the pickleball circuit displayed their unrivaled prowess, cruising to a commanding victory in the mixed doubles final at the Las Vegas Pickleball Cup.

A Dominant Display of Skill

In an emphatic demonstration of their dominance, Waters and Johns dismantled the No. 6 seeds with a decisive score line of 11-6, 11-0, 11-4. This victory marked their 11th title of the season and added to their impressive tally of 38 career titles. The pair’s flawless execution and strategic acumen left their opponents with few answers, highlighting their synergy and exceptional skill on the court.

Confidence and Experience

Reflecting on their triumph, Johns spoke to the confidence and experience that characterize their partnership. “I think we’re just experienced in playing together and we’ve been in most situations together in any given matchup or situation in tournaments, so even if we’re down, I feel like we have a shot at anything,” Johns remarked. “I always feel confident going in with Anna Leigh, so it was just another great tournament.”

This sentiment shows the trust and familiarity that define their successful collaboration.

A Sweet Victory with a Tinge of Concern

The victory at the Las Vegas Pickleball Cup was not only a statement to their skill but also a crowning achievement for Waters, who secured her 28th Triple Crown after clinching gold in both gender doubles and singles earlier in the day. However, the day was not without its challenges for Waters. During a highly-anticipated singles match against Kate Fahey, she sustained an ankle injury. Despite her resilient performance in the final match, the injury was a concern.

It’s not great, to be honest. When you have adrenaline, you don’t really feel it, but when I get up right now, I’m kind of feeling it a little bit, so we’ll see. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious. I don’t think so,” Waters confessed. “I never twist my ankle, so I think I’m probably just being a little bit of a baby, too, because I’m not used to feeling this pain. I feel it in my knees and my glutes, but I never have ankle issues.” Despite her discomfort, Waters showed remarkable resilience, demonstrating her commitment and tenacity.
