Pickleball Facilities Shine in Mount Pleasant’s Recreation

Pickleball Facilities Shine in Mount Pleasant’s Recreation: Mount Pleasant’s new $7.8 million Carolina Park Recreation Complex has officially opened, showcasing its state-of-the-art pickleball facilities. This latest addition underscores the growing popularity of the sport in the region, blending modern amenities with community-focused design.

Pickleball Facilities and Features

The complex, developed by civil engineering firm SeamonWhiteside, features multiple pickleball courts designed to cater to both casual players and competitive enthusiasts. “Mount Pleasant’s grown significantly since 2009, especially in recreation through the Mount Pleasant rec department is really, really popular,” said Whitner Kane, a landscape architecture team leader at Seamon Whiteside. “Scheduling of fields and adding fields has been a priority.” The inclusion of these pickleball courts highlights the complex’s commitment to addressing the increased demand for recreational spaces.

Funding and Development

The pickleball courts were part of the final phases of the complex, with Seamon Whiteside completing phase one in 2010 and phase two in 2019. The successful realization of the pickleball facilities was made possible by additional funding from Recreation Capital Improvement Funds and special revenue funds. Kane noted that this funding enabled the team to advance the project’s development, including the crucial pickleball component.

Future Enhancements

While the pickleball courts are operational, some elements of the complex, such as additional nature trails and boardwalks, remain unfinished. These features will be completed contingent on future funding. Seamon Whiteside’s extensive experience, including projects for Clemson University and Charleston’s Credit One Stadium, underscores their capability in delivering high-quality recreational facilities.

Seamon Whiteside’s next project, the Rifle Range Road Park, is set to incorporate further recreational amenities, with design and permits expected to be finalized by spring 2025.
