Pickleball Fever Hits Western Massachusetts: On Tuesday afternoon, Westfield Technical Academy was bustling with activity as high school students from across western Massachusetts gathered for the inaugural Pickleball Jamboree. This event marks a significant milestone for the region, introducing high school club teams to the growing sport of pickleball.

New Teams in Western Massachusetts

Western Massachusetts now boasts four high school pickleball teams: Springfield International, Westfield Technical Academy, South Hadley High School, and Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School. Kyle Dulude, Athletic Coordinator of Westfield Technical Academy, noted, “Over the summer an email went out to all the athletic directors, athletic coordinators to see if there’s any interest.”

Expanding the League Across Massachusetts

The pickleball high school league in Massachusetts now includes 10 teams. Central Massachusetts hosts five of these teams, while another group is located in eastern Massachusetts. The inclusion of pickleball at the high school level is proving to be a hit among students, who relish the opportunity to engage in a new sport after school hours.
