Open Senior Pickleball Tournament: The Open Senior Edition, dedicated exclusively to players aged 40 and over, will take place from September 27 to September 29, 2024, at La Academia Sport for All in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Sponsored by the Puerto Rico Pickleball Association (PRPA), this inaugural tournament aims to promote pickleball among seniors, with a portion of the proceeds directed towards the development of the sport in this age group.
Registration and Event Details
The cost to participate is $75 for the first event and $25 for any additional events. Players who register by August 30 will receive a tournament shirt in their requested size, while those registering afterward will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. All participants will also receive a goodie bag filled with sponsor products.
Schedule of Events
- Friday, September 27: Female and Male Singles
- Saturday, September 28: Women’s Doubles at 8 AM; Men’s Doubles at 2 PM
- Sunday, September 29: Mixed Doubles at 8 AM
Tournament Format and Rules
The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with matches played to 11 points, winning by 2. Semi-finals and finals will be conducted as single elimination, played to 15 points, also winning by 2. A certified USA Pickleball referee will be present to address any questions or issues, particularly during the finals.
Important Regulations:
- Tournament directors reserve the right to eliminate or consolidate brackets that do not fill.
- Players must dress appropriately and adhere to USAPA clothing regulations.
- All players must be members of the PRPA to participate and must have a free account with DUPR, as all games will be entered into the system.
Refund Policy
- Cancellations notified on or before August 31, 2024, will receive a refund minus a $50 deduction per player.
- No refunds will be issued after August 31, 2024.
As this is an outdoor event, weather-related cancellations will not warrant refunds, though the tournament will be rescheduled if necessary.
