Jackson Metro Expands Pickleball Facilities: In response to the surging popularity of pickleball, three cities within the Jackson metro area are making significant upgrades to their parks to accommodate this rising sport. Liberty Park in Flowood is set to become a focal point for local pickleball enthusiasts with the addition of 18 new courts located conveniently at the property’s entrance.
Transitioning Facilities
As part of this initiative, the existing tennis courts at Winner’s Circle were repurposed to serve as pickleball courts. However, once the new facilities at Liberty Park are completed, the tennis courts will return to their original function, striking a balance between the two sports.
Community Engagement
Flowood Economic Development Director Daniel Lang emphasized the community’s enthusiasm for the sport, noting,
“We had so many people talk to City Hall about how they love the pickleball courts, but we need more in the city. It just adds to our park experience and the overall quality of life for our citizens and visitors that come to Flowood.” – (Daniel Lang)
Construction is projected to be finalized by the end of the year.
Ridgeland’s Adaptations
Meanwhile, Ridgeland is also adapting its facilities. In June, the city resurfaced six of its tennis courts to enhance playing conditions, converting two of these courts into four dedicated pickleball courts. Lang commented on the collective health initiatives of both cities, stating,
“I think both Flowood and Ridgeland have healthy initiatives. So, if we can help make Mississippi healthier, that’s what we’re all about, too.” – (Lang)
