Mid-Summer Slam 2025 Brings Top Pickleball Action to Surrey

The Mid-Summer Slam 2025, a Pickleball Canada-sanctioned tournament, will be hosted by the Surrey Pickleball Club from July 11 to July 13, 2025. The event will take place at the South Surrey Athletic Park Pickleball Courts in Surrey, British Columbia. Registration for this exciting event opens to the public on May 20, 2025, and offers a chance to compete across multiple skill levels and age categories.

Event Schedule and Format

The Mid-Summer Slam 2025 will feature events spread over three days. The tournament begins on Friday, July 11, with Women’s Doubles and Men’s Singles.

On Saturday, July 12, competitors will battle it out in Mixed Doubles, and the event wraps up on Sunday, July 13, with Men’s Doubles and Women’s Singles. If weather disrupts the schedule, a rainout day has been set for Monday, July 14, 2025.

The competition will be held at the South Surrey Athletic Park Pickleball Courts, which boast 24 courts in total, with permanent and temporary nets. Franklin X40 pickleball balls will be used throughout the tournament.

Registration Details

Registration for Surrey Pickleball Club members opens on May 16, 2025, offering a $10 discount for members registering before May 19, 2025. Public registration follows on May 20, with a registration fee of CAD $75. Additionally, there is an event fee of CAD $15 per event.

Players must have a valid Pickleball Canada membership to register. Players can sign up through Pickleball Brackets, where they will also need to ensure their Pickleball Brackets profile is up to date, including their Canadian Tournament Player Rating (CTPR) or DUPR rating.

Skill Levels and Age Categories

The tournament is open to a variety of skill levels, including 3.0 & Under, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0. Each event offers age categories: 12-49, 50-62, and 63 and above. For certain events with fewer participants, age categories will be 12-54 and 55 and above.

Tournament Format

The Doubles Events will follow a Double Elimination format, where matches will be played as best 2 out of 3 games to 11 points. The Consolation Bracket will use a single game to 15 points. For the Singles Events, a round-robin format will be used, with each match played to 15 points. The top four players from each pool will advance to the medal round.

New This Year: DUPR Accounts

For the first time, players will have their Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) accounts automatically created when they register for the tournament. Results from the Mid-Summer Slam 2025 will be uploaded to players’ CTPR and DUPR profiles.

Equipment and Safety

To compete in the tournament, players must use USAPA-approved paddles, which can be verified on the USAPA paddle list. Protective eyewear is strongly encouraged for safety. Additionally, players are urged to bring their portable chairs, shade (like hats or umbrellas), and plenty of water and snacks to stay hydrated during the event.

Tournament organizers have made sure to include amenities such as a water refill station, sponsored by California Closets, to help keep players refreshed.

Referee Information

For those interested in becoming referees, the tournament provides an opportunity to sign up via Pickleball Desk. Certified referees will be paid $15 per match, while Level 2 referees will receive $10 per match, and Level 1 referees will earn $7 per match. Volunteer referees will receive $5 per match.
