Pickleball Tournaments in Okotoks: The Okotoks & District Chamber of Commerce is gearing up to offer Okotoks residents an opportunity to engage in some enjoyable and social events this summer. The chamber is set to host a cornhole tournament on Thursday, August 22, followed by a pickleball tournament on Thursday, September 26. These events are open to the public and aim to blend fun with networking, offering a relaxed environment for locals to connect and engage.
Recreational and Charitable Goals
Dawn LeMaistre, executive director of the chamber, highlighted that the tournaments are designed as purely recreational activities. “We’re always trying to do new and innovative things to draw different individuals and businesses into the fold,” LeMaistre stated. This initiative comes as part of the chamber’s strategy to address a recent shortfall in business engagement. The chamber’s board recognized that a fresh approach was needed to revive participation and foster stronger community ties.
Tournament Details and Registration
The cornhole tournament will take place in the parking lot of the Best Western Plus Okotoks Inns and Suites. The event is expected to feature a lively atmosphere with a beer and spirits garden, along with a variety of food trucks. The registration fee for the cornhole tournament is set at $60 per team, with each team consisting of a minimum of two players and a maximum of six. This tournament will support the Simpora Foundation, adding a charitable element to the competitive fun.
In preparation for the pickleball tournament, which will benefit Foothills Country Hospice, registration is anticipated to open in early August. Pickleball enthusiasts can look forward to an engaging and community-oriented event that promises competitive play and social interaction.
Looking Ahead
LeMaistre expressed enthusiasm about the future of these tournaments, noting that they are intended to become annual events. Alongside the chamber’s established gala, trade show, and golf tournament, the cornhole and pickleball tournaments will offer additional opportunities for community engagement.
The chamber is also considering the addition of a curling bonspiel in the fall to further enhance their annual event lineup. “The idea is for everybody to come out, interact, socialize, and enjoy some community engagement.” LeMaistre said, emphasizing the chamber’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and connected community.
