New Pickleball Courts in Grand Bend: The Municipality of Lambton Shores has officially celebrated the opening of its newly constructed pickleball and tennis courts at Klondyke Sports Park in Grand Bend. The grand opening ceremony, held on Friday, featured a symbolic first serve by the Lambton Shores Council, marking the commencement of what promises to be a vibrant community facility.
Facility Details
The new sports complex includes one tennis court and six pickleball courts, responding to a previous complaint about the location of similar facilities. Mayor Doug Cook reported a strong community turnout and enthusiasm for the new courts.
“There were a lot of folks out there playing pickleball. All six courts were active, and there were people getting on the courts when we left.” – (Doug Cook)
Project Completion
Despite a minor delay in construction, the project was completed on budget, with the final cost totaling $573,887. The courts are now available for public use on a first-come-first-serve basis, open daily from dawn to dusk. Mayor Cook emphasized the importance of shared use, stating,
“If there are groups out there playing, they’re supposed to recognize that there are others waiting and allow them to play when their game is finished.”
Future Prospects
Cook praised the new facility as a significant asset to the municipality, describing it as “almost a world-class facility.” He highlighted its potential to host various events and tournaments, adding, “I’m really looking forward to expanding the club more and having great usage of the facility.” The new courts are expected to become a central hub for local sports enthusiasts, enhancing community engagement and offering ample opportunities for competitive play and casual enjoyment.
