Tennis Courts to Pickleball in LaSalle: The LaSalle Council passed a motion on July 23, 2024, during its Regular Meeting to convert two of the four tennis courts on Front Road into six dedicated pickleball courts. This decision came in response to a request from the LaSalle Pickleball Association, highlighting the growing demand for more outdoor pickleball courts.
Current Status and Costs
The transformation of the tennis courts is underway. The Town’s website will provide updates on when the newly painted pickleball lines will be ready for play. Despite the addition of pickleball lines, the original tennis court markings will remain visible. The estimated cost for this conversion is $10,000. This project serves as an interim measure while the administration explores options for permanent pickleball courts, with potential plans to include them in the 2025 budget as an enhancement to the Vollmer Complex.
Future Plans and Developments
The tennis/pickleball courts on Front Road are slated for removal within the next five years as part of the LaSalle Landing development. In addition, the Town is initiating a Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan. This plan aims to gather feedback from the community, stakeholders, and other key groups to recommend upgrades, new developments, and repurposing opportunities to better meet the recreation needs of residents. The master plan will guide future amenity decisions.
Current and Future Court Availability
Upon completion of the conversion, LaSalle will have a total of 11 outdoor pickleball courts. These will include two at Heritage Park, three at Vince Marcotte Park, and four on Front Road. The town also maintains eight tennis courts: four at Vollmer, one at James Jenner Park, one at Brian Briggs Park, and two on Front Road. All outdoor courts in LaSalle are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Users are requested to limit their time on the courts to one hour if others are waiting.
