Valleystream Pickleball Open Set to Shine as Premier Event

Valleystream Pickleball Open: The Valleystream Pickleball Club is thrilled to announce its inaugural Valleystream Open, set to take place from September 13-15, 2024, at their 14-court facility in Ottawa, the nation’s capital. Players will compete across a variety of skill and age categories in a well-organized tournament designed to highlight the best in pickleball talent.

Skill and Age Categories

The Valleystream Open will feature events for women’s, men’s, and mixed doubles, divided into age groups: Under 50, 50-59, and 60+. Skill levels range from 3.0 to 4.5, including Open and Senior Open divisions. A minimum of 4 teams per event is required.

All participants must be current members of Pickleball Canada, with age determined as of December 31 of the current year. The tournament director may adjust brackets or formats based on registration numbers. Teams must complete both registration and payment within 5 days to secure their spot; otherwise, they will be moved to the waitlist.

Tournament Format

Events will feature a minimum of 4 teams. Categories 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.0+, and 4.5 will use a pool play/round-robin format, with the top teams advancing to single elimination playoffs. Round robin and preliminary playoff matches are played to 15 points. Gold and silver medal matches are best 2 out of 3 games to 11 points, while bronze medal matches are single games to 15 points. Open and Senior Open events with 6 or more teams will follow a double elimination format with prize money. The official tournament ball will be the Franklin X-40.

Schedule and Additional Details

  • September 13, 2024: Men’s/Women’s Doubles 50-59 (3.5), 60+ (3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5) and Senior Open
  • September 14, 2024: Men’s/Women’s Doubles Under 50 and 50-59 (3.0, 3.5, 4.0+), Open, Senior Open
  • September 15, 2024: Mixed Doubles Under 50, 50-59 and 60+ (3.0, 3.5, 4.0+), Open, Senior Open

Referees at Level 1/2 will receive $10 per match. Although the tournament will adhere to official pickleball rules, it will not be sanctioned by Pickleball Canada. Players may register in their chosen skill category, but the director may reassign teams if necessary.

Registration and Costs

Registration closes on September 1, 2024. The event registration fee is $65, with additional fees of $15 per event for skill levels 3.0 to 4.5. For Open and Senior Open divisions, each event costs $65.

Prize Money

Prize money will be awarded for Open and Senior Open events only, with the following payouts for each division:

  • Men’s Doubles Open: 1st $800, 2nd $450, 3rd $300
  • Men’s Doubles Senior Open: 1st $800, 2nd $450, 3rd $300
  • Women’s Doubles Open: 1st $800, 2nd $450, 3rd $300
  • Women’s Doubles Senior Open: 1st $800, 2nd $450, 3rd $300
  • Mixed Doubles Open: 1st $800, 2nd $450, 3rd $300
  • Mixed Doubles Senior Open: 1st $800, 2nd $450, 3rd $300

Refund Policy

Refunds are available up to September 1, 2024, minus a $10 administrative fee. No refunds will be issued after this date, including for injury or unforeseen circumstances. In cases of poor weather, every effort will be made to complete events. Partial refunds may be available based on the number of completed matches.
