Solarium’s New Pickleball Courts: Houston’s Latest Hotspot

Solarium’s New Pickleball Courts: The Solarium, the new venture replacing Holman Draft Hall in Houston’s Midtown, is set to make a splash with its focus on pickleball. Located at 820 Holman St., the 9,000-square-foot venue will feature four dedicated pickleball courts, highlighting the sport’s growing popularity. This addition comes as part of a broader trend where private businesses are incorporating pickleball into their offerings to attract customers.

Venue Details

In addition to pickleball courts, the Solarium will include two padel courts and five lounge-court bays with waiter service. The establishment aims to serve as a multifaceted social hub, combining sports and leisure. The design of the venue reflects an intention to provide a comprehensive experience that allows guests to engage in physical activity while enjoying a relaxed environment.

Rex Hospitality’s Role

Rex Hospitality, led by Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and Juan Carlos Martinez de Aldecoa, will oversee the operation of the Solarium. This venture follows their recent success with Maven Coffee + Cocktails at the Thompson Hotel off Allen Parkway.

The collaboration with the Kirby Group to bring the Solarium to life shows McCullers’ commitment to expanding his hospitality ventures into the sports and entertainment arena.

The Pickleball Surge

The Solarium’s introduction aligns with the rapid growth of pickleball in Houston. Since the Covid pandemic, the sport has seen a significant rise in popularity, with the city now home to around 50 locations offering pickleball facilities. This trend is largely driven by private venues seeking to enhance their appeal through unique and engaging amenities.
