Jasper Place Becomes a Pickleball Hotspot With All-Season Facilities

Jasper Place Becomes a Pickleball Hotspot: Jasper Place is set to undergo a major transformation, becoming a year-round facility for tennis and pickleball facility. Construction, which includes the installation of an air-supported dome, is scheduled to begin in spring and is expected to conclude by late 2025. Once complete, the newly minted IQ Tennis and Pickleball Centre will boast six tennis courts, seven pickleball courts, and a modern clubhouse to serve the local community.

Provincial Support for Infrastructure

The project has received significant backing from the provincial government, which is matching funds raised through grants and donations of up to $1.5 million under the Active Communities Initiative. Reed Clarke, CEO of Sport Edmonton, praised the initiative, saying,

“This is a great example of this type of year-round infrastructure that we need across a wide range of sports in this city.” – (Reed Clarke)

He also emphasized the economic feasibility of enhancing facilities with semi-permanent structures like domes.

“Enhancing the existing infrastructure with a dome or another semi-permanent structure also just makes economic sense and it’s something that can be modeled and replicated, if proven successful, over and over again.” – (Reed Clarke)

A Hub of Inclusivity

Ivan Quintero, the center’s director, highlighted the broader vision for the facility.

The IQ Tennis and Pickleball Centre will be much more than just a new facility. It will serve as a hub of inclusivity, and engagement, and it will enrich the life of people of many ages and abilities.” – (Ivan Quintero)

Current Facilities and Broader Impact

Currently, Jasper Place features six bookable tennis courts and one drop-in court, operational only during warmer months.

As part of a broader effort to enhance community sports infrastructure, the facility is one of 12 projects benefiting from $4.2 million in provincial funding announced on Thursday.

Jasper Place will soon host a year-round tennis and pickleball facility featuring an air-supported dome, six tennis courts, seven pickleball courts, and a new clubhouse. Construction begins in spring 2024, aiming for completion by late 2025.
