Upcoming Pickleball Canada Special General Meeting Could Reshape Board Structure and Elections

Pickleball Canada Special General Meeting: Pickleball Canada has scheduled a Special General Meeting (SGM) for March 24, 2025, at 7:00 pm ET via video conference. The meeting will focus on proposed amendments to the organization’s bylaws, particularly those related to the Board of Directors’ size and structure. These changes aim to ensure compliance with national sporting organization standards and governing legislation.

Registration and Participation Details

  • Eligibility: Only active Pickleball Canada members can attend and vote.
  • Registration Deadline: Members must register by March 17, 2025, at 11:59 pm ET.
  • Voting: Electronic voting details will be provided to registered participants. Proxy voting is allowed, with each delegate permitted only one proxy.
  • Meeting Access: After registration closes, members will receive a Zoom link and procedural details. Translation services will be available in French and English.

Key Resolutions to be Voted On

Resolution 2025-01: Expanding the Board of Directors

  • Proposal: Increase the number of elected Board members to 12.
  • Voting Requirement: Special resolution (more than two-thirds approval needed).

Resolution 2025-02: Conflict of Interest Policy for Board Members

  • Proposal: Prohibit individuals who hold positions in other pickleball organizations from serving on the Board unless they resign within seven days of election.
  • Voting Requirement: Ordinary resolution (more than 50% approval needed).

Resolution 2025-03: Geographic Representation in Nominations

  • Proposal: The Nominations Committee must ensure candidates represent all six geographic regions of Canada:
    • British Columbia & Yukon

    • Manitoba, Saskatchewan & Nunavut
    • Ontario
    • Quebec
    • Atlantic Canada (New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island)

Resolution 2025-04: Election Process and Term Adjustments

  • Proposal: Elect six directors each year for two-year terms. Adjustments will be made if a director resigns or is removed mid-term.
