New CNPL Draft Rules Welcome International and Youth Pickleball Talent

New CNPL Draft Rules: The Canadian National Pickleball League (CNPL) has announced major updates to its 2025 Draft eligibility rules. The league will now allow international players and athletes under 18 to enter the draft, expanding the talent pool and increasing the competition level. These changes support CNPL’s goal of growing professional pickleball in Canada.

International Players Now Eligible

For the first time, CNPL teams can draft one international player. While this is optional, it provides an opportunity for elite players from other countries to join the league.

International players must meet at least one of the following pre-draft requirements: they must participate in a CNPL Showdown or MiLP event before the draft or have a pro-level contract with a recognized league, such as Major League Pickleball (MLP), Professional Pickleball Association (PPA), or Association of Pickleball Players (APP).

Additionally, teams selecting an international player will be responsible for managing all necessary visa requirements. Regardless of professional status, international players must register for the draft and pay the required administrative fee through Showpass.

Players Under 18 Now Welcome

To encourage young talent, Canadian National Pickleball League has opened draft eligibility to players under 18 with no restrictions on the number of spots available. However, teams must meet specific requirements when selecting an underage player.

A key condition is that any team drafting a player under 18 must have SafeSport certification to create a safe environment. Additionally, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the young athlete to all CNPL events.

What This Means for Canadian National Pickleball League

By welcoming international and under-18 players, CNPL is positioning itself as a top destination for competitive pickleball. These rule changes will introduce fresh talent and raise the level of play across the league.

Aspiring players who meet the new eligibility criteria are encouraged to register and prepare for the upcoming draft. With these updates, CNPL is set for an exhilarating 2025 season.
