Assam’s Pickleball Stars Shine at Nationals: The Assam Pickleball Association (APA) announced key developments to promote pickleball in Northeast India during a press meet in Guwahati. The association also celebrated Assam’s medalists from the 4th Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) National Pickleball Championships, held at Bennett University, Greater Noida. Assam won two medals, marking a major achievement for the state.
Assam’s National Success
The APA felicitated Babita Mohan Langthasa, who won silver in the 50+ Women’s Singles category, and Langthasa along with Nazneen Rahman, who secured bronze in the 50+ Women’s Doubles event. APA Secretary Nazneen Rahman praised the players’ dedication and highlighted their success.
“The Assam contingent delivered an outstanding performance, solidifying the state’s presence on the national pickleball map,” (Nazneen Rahman).

Building on this success, APA has outlined a five-point plan to expand pickleball in the region:
- Regional Training Centers: Establishing modern pickleball facilities across key northeastern states to enhance coaching and infrastructure.
- Inter-State Tournaments: Creating competitive platforms to provide players with national-level exposure.
- Youth Development Programs: Introducing pickleball in schools and colleges to foster young talent.
- Community Engagement: Organizing awareness campaigns, workshops, and exhibitions to popularize the sport.
- Collaboration with Authorities: Working with government bodies and sports federations to secure funding and policy support.
Growing Pickleball in Assam
The APA, registered under the Government of Assam and affiliated with the Indian Pickleball Association, has played a crucial role in promoting the sport. Through grassroots initiatives, training camps, and collaborations with educational institutions, it has helped create a thriving pickleball community.
Additionally, the association released the names of Assam’s national team members across various categories. Key players include Abyan Zaffar, Jishnu Baruah, and Himanish Sarma (Men’s Open), Mitali Baruah and Sanchita Sarma (Women’s 35+), and Nazneen Rahman and Babita Langthasa (Women’s 50+), among others.
With its structured approach and growing support, the APA is set to elevate pickleball’s presence in Northeast India, paving the way for more players to compete nationally and internationally.
