PWR DUPR India League Delayed Indefinitely, Sparks Speculation on Future Plans

PWR DUPR India League Delayed: The highly anticipated PWR DUPR India League, originally set to take place March 17-23, 2025, at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai, has been delayed once again. Organizers have not yet announced a new date for the event, raising speculation about its future.

Reasons for the Delay

The Pickleball World Rankings (PWR), which oversees the league, confirmed the postponement, citing two key reasons. Pranav Kohli, Founder and CEO of PWR, explained that the decision was made by team owners and came down to the following factors:

  • More Time for Team Owners – With a rushed schedule, team owners wanted additional time to understand the sport, scout players, and develop marketing strategies.

“Owing to the rushed schedule the team owners wanted some time to understand the sport and players better. They also wanted to create marketing and PR around their team.” – (Kohli)

  • Avoiding Conflict with IPL – The Indian Premier League (IPL), India’s biggest cricket event, starts on March 22. To avoid competition with IPL’s massive audience, organizers decided to reschedule.

“Team owners with our broadcasters believed that the first season is the most critical and we took a last minute call not to clash with the IPL (Indian Premier League)- the biggest cricket league and the biggest sporting event in India.  The Indian Premier league announced their schedule to start on 22nd March.” – (Kohli)

Uncertainty Surrounding the League

The league made a splashy debut announcement, introducing tennis legend Andre Agassi as a figurehead and promising to be a global showcase for pickleball talent.

However, after multiple delays, rumors spread on social media that the event might be canceled entirely. PWR insists this is not the case, but with no new date set, the league’s future remains uncertain.
