Granville Celebrates New Pickleball Courts: A Win for Community Recreation

Granville Celebrates New Pickleball Courts: Granville has celebrated the opening of new pickleball courts in Mettowee Park, marking a significant milestone for the Granville Recreational Economy for Rural Communities program. This project is among the first tangible results of Granville’s participation in the program, designated last year.

A Community Effort

The construction of the pickleball courts began this spring, thanks to a substantial grant from the Granville Foundation and the Granville Lions Club. The project culminated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Wednesday, August 28. Prior to this, the courts had a soft opening on Thursday, August 8, coinciding with National Pickleball Day.

Village Trustee Denise Davies played a crucial role in bringing the project to fruition. She emphasized that it was a true community effort, highlighting the contributions of the village’s department of public works. Superintendent Scott Mackey and employee Josh Hayes were instrumental in the courts’ development, ensuring the project stayed on track.

Celebrating a Growing Sport

The new courts are expected to attract pickleball enthusiasts of all ages, contributing to the growing popularity of the sport in the region. With pickleball’s rise in popularity, the addition of these courts provides a dedicated space for residents to engage in healthy and fun activities.

“It’s great to see the community come together for this project,”. “These courts will offer a place for everyone to enjoy the sport.” (Davies told NYVT Media)

Future Implications

The opening of the pickleball courts not only enhances recreational opportunities in Granville but also signifies the potential for future projects under the Recreational Economy for Rural Communities program. The successful completion of this project may lead to further developments that promote community health and engagement.

Granville residents can now look forward to enjoying this exciting sport in their local park, strengthening community ties and promoting active lifestyles for years to come.
