Scottie Scheffler Dominates Pickleball: Former NFL star and Super Bowl champion Golden Tate recently praised World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler’s pickleball skills. After facing Scheffler in Nashville, Tate revealed that the two-time Masters champion held his own and dominated their matches, showcasing his athleticism and tactical approach.
Tate discussed the experience on The Smylie Show podcast, hosted by PGA Tour winner Smylie Kaufman.
“I’d seen him play in like Celeb-Ams and thought he had some game, but I didn’t realize how good he was,”(Golden Tate).
He noted Scheffler’s quick reactions, strong footwork, and precise ball placement, adding,
“It was really fun to play with him.”

A Competitive Match
Tate and Scheffler faced off in singles after a doubles match with Kaufman and PGA Tour star Sam Burns. According to Tate, Scheffler displayed impressive skill and control. “He has a really good understanding of the game of pickleball.
It was kind of wild,”. “He was putting me in situations where I couldn’t create an edge.”(Golden Tate)
Despite his confidence in his own athletic ability, Tate admitted that Scheffler’s performance surprised him.
“I felt like going into the match I was more athletic than him, but after he whooped up on me twice, I was like, ‘Ok, this guy can play.’”(Golden Tate)
Tate added that he’d like a rematch when both players are fresh.
Tactical Mastery
Scheffler’s strategy on the court earned him high praise from Tate, who described how the golfer controlled the pace and forced him into difficult positions.
“He had me out there just running sprints all over the court,”. “He’d just be sitting in the middle of the court, just like angles, angles, and I was getting one or two of them, but then the third one, he would just like close it out because I was burnt out and tired.”(Golden Tate)
Tate reiterated his desire for another chance to play Scheffler and figure out a new game plan.
“I would love to get another game and figure out a way to get something going,” (Golden Tate).
