The new program focuses on building strength, agility, and endurance, helping beginners and experienced players improve their skills and avoid injury.
Parenteau’s Journey to Pickleball Success
Originally from Repentigny, Quebec, Parenteau switched from tennis to pickleball after being invited to a local recreational tournament by Michigan State’s head tennis coach, Simone Jardim.
After falling in love with the sport, she went on to compete in major tournaments, including the US Open Pickleball Championships. In 2023, she made history by achieving a triple crown, winning singles, doubles, and mixed doubles at the Invisalign North Carolina Open.
Importance of Off-Court Training
Parenteau’s success is also rooted in her commitment to off-court training. She credits resistance workouts and recovery protocols, like ice baths and Normatec compression boots, for improving her performance.
“I used to get tired on the court… but resistance training has dramatically improved both my strength and stamina,” she says.
Apple Fitness+ Pickleball Program
The new pickleball program on Apple Fitness+, co-created by Parenteau and Fitness+ instructors Kim Ngo and Bakari Williams, offers workouts that mimic the lateral movements specific to pickleball. Designed for all skill levels, the program helps players stay injury-free while improving their pickleball technique.
Ngo, who also participated in the program, adds, “The program is definitely for anyone who has been pickling for a while, has been thinking about taking up pickleball, or just doesn’t have a clue what pickleball is.” The workouts are designed to build the necessary endurance for longer games and teach players the specific physical requirements of the sport.
The Importance of Fun and Fitness
Parenteau emphasizes the importance of training that brings joy and supports long-term health. “We should work to identify the activities that bring us joy and embrace the sport-specific training and habits that allow us to enjoy them, injury-free, for as long as possible,” she explains.
Her partnership with Apple Fitness+ aims to make pickleball more accessible to players, helping them stay active, injury-free, and engaged in a sport that promotes fun, connection, and health.
