A Grand Finale Awaits: Tupong’s Upcoming Pickleball Super Series Set for 2025

Tupong’s Upcoming Pickleball Super Series: In response to the overwhelming success of the recent pickleball competition, the Tupong SABERKAS and Tupong PBB branches are gearing up for a more prestigious tournament series. The proposed super series will feature multiple competitions throughout the year, culminating in a grand finale by the end of 2025.

Enthusiastic Support from Local Leaders

Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Chief Political Secretary to the Premier, expressed his enthusiasm for the sport’s future in his address. “The response has been overwhelming,” he noted, highlighting the high interest in the competition.

A vibrant gathering of 190 participants came together in the Tupong constituency to compete for the coveted YB Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman’s Cup. The opening ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, alongside Fazzrudin, who also serves as the Tupong assemblyman.

Growing Popularity of Pickleball in Sarawak

During the event, Datuk Abdullah praised the efforts of the Tupong SABERKAS branch and the Kuching Pickleball Association (KPA) in organizing the competition.

“I think the pickleball sport was first introduced to Sarawak in Miri but now in Kuching, the sport has gained traction to the extent that everyone in Sarawak knows about it.” – (Datuk Abdullah)

“I hope with Datuk Fazzrudin being a sportsman, and overseeing sporting associations, he will be able to assist the pickleball sport and elevate it to a higher level.” – (Datuk Abdullah)

Abdullah emphasized the importance of support from local leaders like Datuk Fazzrudin, who has a background in sports.

“Hopefully in the future, pickleball could be a sport competed in tournaments such as the Malaysian Games.” – (Datuk Abdullah)

As part of the event, Abdullah and Fazzrudin showcased their skills in an exhibition pickleball doubles match against Kuching Pickleball Association vice president Alex Teow and executive committee member Sapri Rambli.

The competition included six exciting categories: Men’s Open Doubles, Men’s Veteran Doubles, Women’s Open Doubles, Men’s Open Singles, Mixed Open Doubles, and Novice Doubles, reflecting the sport’s inclusivity and appeal across various skill levels.
