Community Comes Together for a Cause
Amid the destruction caused by the wildfires, many locals stepped up to support their neighbors. Mary and Maggie Brascia, daughters of Vinnie Brascia, who leads the pickleball program at Los Cab, were eager to help.
Together with the SoCal Hard Eights, they rallied local pickleball players and professionals for a fundraising event that brought the community together in a time of need.
“A couple of us from the Los Cab community came together wanting to help our neighbors in LA because of the devastation from the wildfires.” – (Mary Brascia)
The event was originally scheduled to coincide with the PPA Tour’s Veolia Southern California event, which was canceled due to the ongoing wildfire threats.

Pickleball for a Purpose
Instead of taking a break during the non-tournament week, the Brascias and other local players used the time to fundraise and raise awareness about the wildfires’ impact. They were able to unite the Southern California pickleball community for a good cause.
“We were glad to be able to spend time on a non-tournament weekend with our SoCal pickleball community and use pickleball to help others. Pickleball is all about community. As Maggie and I continue to compete on tour and grow the game, we want people to know that pickleball is for everyone. Anyone can play. It can truly change lives.” – (Mary)
Ongoing Support and Community Spirit
Thanks to the generosity of the local pickleball community, the fundraising efforts are still growing. So far, the group has raised $17,000 to support wildfire relief, with contributions continuing to come in. The event has not only raised money but also shown the power of sports in bringing people together for a common cause.
“It was really special to see so many SoCal pros and friends gather to just play some games for a good cause. Special thanks to my dad, Rick Chan and the Hard Eights team, Steven Ma and the Los Cab crew for making this happen.” – (Mary)
