Key Steps for a Strong Drop Shot

The first tip is to adjust to the bounce by moving your feet.

“One, this ball’s gonna bounce. So because I have to let the ball bounce, I’m probably gonna have to take a few steps to adjust to that bounce.” – (barr)

Next, players must quickly decide whether to use a forehand or backhand.

“Number two, I gotta decide if it’s a forehand or a backhand. As soon as that returner hits that ball, I’m gonna drop my paddle head to either my forehand or my backhand side.” – (barr)

No Backswing and Proper Timing

Barr emphasizes keeping the swing controlled. “Number three, no backswing.” A large backswing can reduce accuracy and make it harder to control the shot. Timing is also critical.

“One last thing I wanna talk about, timing. I’m gonna let this ball bounce, rise up to its peak, and then be starting to come back down. And that’s the point of contact in which I wanna make with the ball.” – (barr)

Improving the Game

These tips help players turn their drop shot into an effective weapon. Proper footwork, quick decision-making, and controlled timing can give players an advantage, making it easier to stay in control during a match.
