The Importance of Targeting the Center
Tomassi explained that the ideal target area for a third shot drop is the middle of the kitchen. He said, “You ideally wanna aim toward the center of the kitchen. So between here and here would be perfect.” By focusing on this central area, players can enhance their strategy during gameplay.
Avoiding the Outer Edges
Tomassi advised against dropping the ball to the outer edges of the kitchen. He noted, “I never hit drops from like here over.” Hitting drops toward the outer sides can create angles that provide opponents with more options, such as attacking down the line or making aggressive cross-court shots.
Creating Angles
By targeting the middle, players limit their opponents’ options. Tomassi explained that when the drop shot is played to the edges, it gives the opponent many angles to work with.
In contrast, when the drop is placed in the center, opponents are left with fewer choices, primarily attacking through the middle. This makes it easier for players to anticipate where the ball will go.
