Once players understand their position in a rally, they can better determine their targets. When on offense, Briones recommends aiming closer to the non-volley zone line to pressure opponents. Conversely, when in a defensive position, players should execute slower, safer shots to buy time to regain a better position.
Briones shared a series of drills designed to help players practice these decision-making skills. In one drill, players focused on hitting aggressive dinks while maintaining balance and proper contact point. In another, players practiced hitting safe, shallow dinks when off balance.
