Ben Johns Reviews the JOOLA Pro IV Pickleball Paddle: Improved Consistency and Durability

Ben Johns Reviews the JOOLA Pro IV: JOOLA has just released its new Pro IV paddle, and it’s creating a buzz in the pickleball sport. Known for its sleek black-and-white design with subtle pops of color, the Pro IV is catching the attention of players for its enhanced performance. But what matters is how it plays, and top pros like Ben Johns are already weighing in.

Ben Johns Shares His Thoughts

Ben Johns, one of the top names in pickleball, praised the new paddle, noting how much of an improvement the Pro IV is over its predecessor, the 3S.

“The 3S was a great paddle, but I think the Pro IV is even better. Our main focus going into making the Pro IV was fixing the overall solidity of the paddle. We added supports near the throat area and on the outside edge, which makes the paddle extremely consistent.” – (johns)

Johns explained that these improvements make the Pro IV feel solid and forgiving, especially when it comes to mishits.

“You’ll see this most in real game play during the mishit when you don’t hit it in the middle. And then it’s extremely forgiving. You’re not going to make a lot of errors, even when you mishit it. It’s a pleasure to play with.” – (johns)

What’s New in the Pro IV?

Josh Jenkins, a brand manager and sponsored pro coach at JOOLA, also gave insights into the performance of the Pro IV. He highlighted that while the Pro IV is a “power” paddle, it stands out due to its combination of spin, control, and durability.

“The Pro IV will play most similarly to the 3S, but players can expect increased durability and solidity from the paddle. It has a slightly larger sweet spot with comparable levels of spin and control to the 3S.” – (Jenkins)

When compared to the Mod paddle, Jenkins noted that the Pro IV blends the best features of both.

“The Pro IV will have slightly less power, but a more solid feel throughout the hitting surface. It blends between the two, 3S and Mod, offering comparable power to the 3S, but the feeling and dwell time of the Mod. This is all due to the flexibility of the paddle with the new technology in the throat.” – (Jenkins)

Who Will Love the Pro IV?

Jenkins believes the Pro IV will be great for players at all skill levels but particularly advantageous for those playing competitively.

“I can see this paddle being played by players of all skill levels, but I think those playing competitively will love the benefits of the new paddles.” – (Jenkins)
