Pitt Pickleball Club: The University of Pittsburgh’s Pickleball Club has won the CNC Sweepstakes, securing an all-expenses-paid trip to the DUPR Collegiate National Championship (CNC) at Life Time Peachtree Corners in Georgia from April 11-13. The club’s rapid growth, competitive success, and strong community support have made it a rising force in collegiate pickleball.
Building a Thriving Pickleball Club
Founded in the spring of 2024, the Pitt Pickleball Club quickly became a hub for students passionate about the sport. “As a newer organization, we are thrilled to be recognized on a national scale!” said Ethan Estacio, a club representative.
Before its formation, students had no dedicated space for pickleball, despite growing interest. Once recognized, the club expanded rapidly, growing to nearly 400 members with 32 competitive players. Despite financial challenges, the team has found ways to compete, attending DUPR Super Regionals and making its first CNC appearance in 2024.
Securing a Spot at Nationals
Pitt’s breakthrough moment came at the New Jersey Super Regional, where they earned a CNC bid. The achievement marked a milestone for the young program, proving its ability to compete at a high level.
Winning the CNC Sweepstakes, which covers travel and tournament costs, was an unexpected but welcome victory. “It’s incredibly humbling to have such a strong and passionate community behind us. If we could personally thank every single person who voted for us, we absolutely would—because their support means the world to us,” said Estacio.
Preparing for the National Stage
With financial concerns eased, the team is focused on training. Sessions now emphasize endurance, footwork, and skill refinement to prepare for the national competition. Beyond the matches, players are excited for the experience of traveling together and representing Pitt on a bigger stage.
Inspiring Other Pickleball Clubs
For new clubs, Pitt’s journey offers valuable lessons. Their advice: build a strong foundation and find committed players. Growth takes time, but with passion and perseverance, success is possible.
As Pitt heads to CNC 2025, they are eager to prove themselves against the nation’s best collegiate teams. Their rapid surge is a testament to hard work, community support, and the growing popularity of pickleball.
