Mastering Pickleball Shot Speed: Pickleball coach DJ Howard has introduced an advanced training drill called “30, 60, 90,” designed to help players develop control over their shot speeds. This exercise challenges participants to hit shots at three different speeds—30%, 60%, and 90%—based on in-game scenarios.

As the sequence repeats, the player on the far side of the court must adjust to incoming shots by moving up and back while returning the ball. The drill hones shot precision and endurance.

Howard introduces variations to increase the challenge. In an advanced version, the opponent moves laterally across the court after every three-shot sequence, requiring additional footwork and agility.

A further progression demands that the opponent alternate sides after each shot, making the drill even more demanding.
