Koszuta’s advice focuses on reading opponents’ playing styles, targeting weaknesses, and building a basic game plan before matches begin.

Understanding Opponent Playing Styles

Kyle Koszuta said one of the first steps is figuring out how the opponents play.

“When you’re playing a tournament, how do you scout opponents that you’ve never seen before? The first one is I would try to understand what their style is. Big servers, big, I said big swingers. Do they hit big drives? Are they crashing a lot?” – (Koszuta)

This early read helps players decide how to approach returns and rallies.

Choosing the Right Return Strategy

Kyle Koszuta’s second point was about choosing where to return the ball based on player tendencies.

“The second thing is I would try to figure out who should we return to. One player really likes the drive. Well, if you don’t wanna handle the drive as much, maybe hit it to the player who likes to drop more.” – (Koszuta)

This helps limit tough shots and keeps play under control.

Spotting Mistakes and Making Adjustments

His third tip focused on identifying errors and using that to guide early play.

“And then the third one, pretty simple, but it would just be, is one player making more mistakes than the other player?” – (Koszuta)

“Often, we overlook this thing. One player is clearly making more mistakes. Go after that player more to start the match.” – (Koszuta)

Koszuta encouraged players to be observant during warmups and other matches.

Why It Matters for Pickleball Players

Kyle Koszuta closed his video by reminding players how important it is to watch others and come in with a plan.

“It’s helpful to at least have a small plan of what you’re gonna do because of the information you gathered from watching the opponent before your match. Go get them.” – (Koszuta)

His tips are meant to help beginners and experienced players take a smarter approach in tournament play.
