How Anna Leigh Waters’ Unique Serve Technique Made Her Pickleball’s Youngest World No. 1

Anna Leigh Waters’ Pickleball Serve Technique: Anna Leigh Waters, the World No. 1 in women’s singles, has found the key to perfect pickleball serves. At just 18, she has impressed fans and players with her powerful, forehand-like serve, guided by her coach and mother, Leigh Waters.

Anna Leigh is known for her strong, fast play and skillful court moves. With 50 women’s singles titles and many more in doubles, she is one of the sport’s brightest stars. Her powerful serves have become a big reason for her success in pickleball.

The Forehand-Like Pickleball Serve

Unlike tennis serves, pickleball serves are hit underhand. Anna Leigh uses a forehand-style motion, adding strength by shifting her body weight. “In tennis, the overhead serve is completely different. But in pickleball, the serve feels like you’re hitting a forehand,” said Anna Leigh.

Her mother and coach, Leigh Waters, explained how important timing is in a match. “If you are in a tournament, definitely let the referee say the score,” Leigh advised. This helps Anna Leigh stay calm and focused before starting her service motion.

Staying Focused on Targets

Leigh also shared tips for practice. She tells Anna Leigh to always pick a target before serving. “Before you serve, pick your target, look at it, and then go,” Leigh said. This helps keep her mind clear and focused, avoiding distractions during a match.

To keep training fun, Leigh sets up target games. “The best way is to get some targets out and play a little game with yourself. Or, if you have a practice partner, play little games against each other to hit targets,” Leigh recommended.

Expert Dedication to Training

Anna Leigh’s drive for perfection has led her to practice serves even during matches. On one occasion, she focused fully on serve placement to improve accuracy. This strong dedication has helped her become the youngest World No. 1 in pickleball history.

Leigh pointed out that practicing with targets can help players see the same spots during matches. “And then when you get into your match play, you can see the targets you hit in practice,” she added.

A Bright Future in Pickleball

Anna Leigh Waters continues to set new standards in pickleball. Her serve technique, paired with powerful strokes and sharp movements, makes her tough to beat. With guidance from Leigh Waters, she remains one of the sport’s fastest-rising and most successful young stars.

As more players follow her lead, pickleball could see stronger, smarter serving styles. Anna Leigh’s dedication might inspire the next generation of champions to focus on practice, patience, and precision.
