Rally for Hope Pickleball Tournament: Thirty-one teams from across the Midwest gathered at First Serve Tennis Center in South Sioux City, Nebraska, to play pickleball and raise $5,000 for the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. The “Rally for Hope” tournament featured teams from Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska.
Event Brings Communities Together
The tournament was held to show support for those facing cancer. Players competed in lively matches filled with aces, backhands, and smashes. In addition to entry fees, organizers held a raffle to boost fundraising efforts.
Cheri Van Valkenburg, the tournament organizer, said, “We all know people who have been through the cancer journey or are going through it now and we wanted to show that we’re with them, we support them. So we’re raising money for June E. Nylen and for all our friends and family and loved ones that are going through the cancer journey.”
Successful First Year
This was the first year for the “Rally for Hope” event. With strong turnout and generous donations, organizers now plan to hold the tournament again next year. Teams enjoyed the chance to compete while helping a meaningful cause.
Impact and Future Plans
The $5,000 raised will help the June E. Nylen Cancer Center support cancer patients in the community. Organizers hope that the success of this year’s event will encourage even more teams and supporters to join in the future.
