Dink Minor League Pickleball Introduces Fast-Paced 3v3 Format—Will This Change the Game Forever?

Dink Minor League Pickleball 3v3 Format: The Dink Minor League Pickleball (MiLP) has launched a new 3v3 format in 2025 to make matches faster and more exciting. This format uses gender-based teams of three players and removes the DreamBreaker, changing how games are played and won. Players can now join the classic and new formats at Nationals, which will include divisions like DUPR 9, 11, 13, and 15.

A New Style of Play

The new 3v3 setup only allows three men to play against three men or three women against three women. Each match includes three games, with no mixed doubles and no DreamBreaker round. This shortens the match and lets more teams play during the day.

MiLP introduced this format to keep games simple and more fun for everyone. It makes events easier to run and allows more chances for players to compete.

The official release says, “Put simply, we wanted a more streamlined match format—and players are loving it. The new 3v3 setup delivers faster events and a more accessible experience for both players and organizers.”

What It Means for Teams

This is not a version of the old format. It’s a brand-new way to play. Captains can build their teams to focus on specific player strengths. New teams can join more easily, while experienced teams get a new challenge.

MiLP explains, “It keeps the strategic team element that defines Minor League Pickleball, but shortens the overall match by removing the DreamBreaker.”

Pathway to Nationals

The 3v3 format is now part of the Dink Minor League Pickleball’s official structure. Teams that play well in this format can earn spots in Nationals. It includes all major DUPR skill levels, making it a big step forward for amateur players.

As MiLP states, “That means your team’s performance in 3v3 can punch a ticket to the biggest amateur stage in pickleball. Same structure, same intensity—just with a tighter format and focused rosters.”

What Comes Next

This 3v3 format adds a new level of speed and strategy to Minor League Pickleball. It gives players more chances to compete and allows organizers to hold more games in one day. The change is likely to attract new players while keeping the game fun and competitive for seasoned ones.
