From Backyard Courts to World Stage: 12-Year-Old Pierce Behr Sets Sights on Pickleball Glory

Pierce Behr’s Pickleball Dream: Twelve-year-old Pierce Behr from The Woodlands, Texas, is quickly making a name for himself in the sport of pickleball. Ranked in the top 10 nationwide in the Boys 14 and Under division, Pierce is aiming to compete and win medals at the Pickleball World Championships in Dallas this November.

From Backyard to Big Leagues

Pierce Behr first discovered pickleball two years ago on a court in his grandfather’s backyard. Since then, the young athlete has dedicated himself to mastering the game, choosing it over other sports he could have played.

“Ever since the start I wanted to be super good at this game,” said Pierce Behr. His passion has paid off. Today, he ranks among the top players in the United States in Boys 14 and Under singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories.

Why He Chose Pickleball

Pierce Behr told KPRC 2 Sports Reporter Ari Alexander what drew him to the game. “It’s just so awesome, the competitiveness and versatility of the sport is awesome,” Behr said. Pickleball is known for combining elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It’s easy to learn but can be highly competitive, which makes it appealing to all ages.

The Fastest Growing Sport

According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the United States for the fourth year in a row. More young players like Pierce Behr are helping drive that growth by competing at a high level and encouraging others to join the sport.

Eyes on the World Stage

Pierce Behr is now focused on his next goal: the Pickleball World Championships. The event will take place in Dallas, Texas, from November 3 to 9.

It’s a major opportunity for young players like Behr to shine on a global stage. If he continues to train and compete at his current level, Behr may soon be one of the sport’s rising stars.
