Mary Brascia Transforms Pickleball Into a Coachella-Style Festival at Los Cab Sports Club

Mary Brascia at Cabchella Event: Mary Brascia brought a Coachella-style event to the Los Cab Sports Club last month in Southern California. The Cabchella event mixed live music, food, and pickleball to give the members and visitors a fun way to enjoy the sport and build community.

Mary Brascia, a well-known name in pickleball, created Cabchella earlier this year. Inspired by her love for the Coachella music festival, she wanted to bring that same fun, social energy to the pickleball courts.

“I came up with Cabchella at the beginning of the year because I love Coachella. I’ve been to Coachella before, and I went again this year. I think the music, festival, and pickleball vibes are really a cool thing to build community and have a fun Saturday afternoon event.” – (Brascia)

Music, Pickleball, and Festival Fun

“Basically, we had a couple hours where members and non-members could come to Los Cab and listen to music and play pickleball. We had a DJ, and he was up on the deck overlooking the courts. He was playing all sorts of house and pop music.” – (Brascia)

The festival-style party also featured food trucks, drinks, local vendors, and music from the Southern California pickleball scene. Her favorite food options included Florence and TK Burgers.

“So many friends, pros, and amateurs came. Everyone was playing pickleball, eating and dancing all night long. It was such a good time.” – (Brascia)

Dance Battles and Stylish Outfits

Players came dressed in festival fashion, wearing bright colors, sparkles, and crochet tops. A dance contest added even more excitement to the evening.

“I attempted to breakdance, and I will report that I don’t think I’m going to be on the Olympic breakdancing team in the future. But, there were some young next gen kids that definitely had good dance moves, so if they’re not playing pickleball, you can probably catch them on the dance floor.” – (Brascia)

Los Cab regulars Christine Maddox and Genie Erokhina also joined in on the fun.

Team Support and Family Involvement

Cabchella was supported by the SoCal Hard Eights, Mary Brascia’s former Major League Pickleball team. One of the founders, Rick Chan, helped support the event and shares Brascia’s goal of growing the sport.

“We all see eye to eye and want to grow the sport and bring our SoCal community together. It was really cool to have all these people involved in making Cabchella come to life. My whole family was there. Even my youngest sister Molly came back from UCLA to play. It was just super special.” – (Brascia)

More Events Ahead

The team at Los Cab Sports Club hopes to plan more events like Cabchella in the future. After a successful Halloween inflatable pickleball night, the club is quickly becoming known for fun, creative ways to enjoy the sport.
