Andre Agassi Swaps Tennis for Pickleball, Teams Up with Anna Leigh Waters in Exciting Match

Andre Agassi’s Pickleball Journey: Andre Agassi, the 55-year-old former tennis star, has fallen in love with pickleball after playing in his first competitive match. He teamed up with Anna Leigh Waters, the top-ranked female pickleball player, in the mixed division at the U.S. Open Pickleball Championship last month. Although they won one match and lost the next, the experience left Andre Agassi wanting more.

A Tennis Legend Enters a New Game

Andre Agassi, an 8-time Grand Slam tennis champion, is now diving into pickleball. Known for his strong court presence during his tennis career, he is now using those skills to compete in a growing sport. Despite being new to the game, he is already making waves.

Andre Agassi’s first major appearance in pickleball came when he played with Anna Leigh Waters in a professional match. Even though the pair did not win the title, the event sparked a new passion for Agassi.

Why Pickleball Captured His Interest

Andre Agassi shared his excitement after the event during an interview with Fox News Digital. “Dude, I’m not just liking it, I’m loving it. … It’s an anomaly to see any support ever at this kind of pace, but it’s easy to see why,” Andre Agassi said.

He added that even though he grew up with a racket, the switch to a paddle and the rules of pickleball challenged him. “It’s really hard. These guys are so specialized, it’s so sensitive, such little margin for error,” Andre Agassi said.

“There’s so much nuance that creates opportunity. It’s not like ‘see space, hit space.’ There was a lot I had to unlearn, but some things came instinctively. I grew up with a racket in my hand, and in this case it’s a paddle, so I’m going to make good contact. But the blood pressure, it’s hard to find a place to put it when you’re out there on the pickle court.” – (Agassi)
