Jack Munro Unleashes “The Blitz”—A Game-Changing Pickleball Attack to Outsmart Opponents

Jack Munro’s Pickleball Blitz Strategy: Jack Munro is helping pickleball players update their footwork by introducing an aggressive new tactic called “The Blitz.” In a recent instructional video, Munro explained how this move, used after the third shot or while moving through the transition zone, can surprise opponents and force a fast-paced exchange at the net. The goal is to shift from a defensive mindset to an offensive approach even before reaching the kitchen line.

The strategy, often used by top players like Julian Arnold and Hayden Patriquin, focuses on speeding up the game to gain an edge against opponents already positioned at the net.

Transition Zone Is No Longer Just Defensive

Many players believe that the transition zone is a defensive spot. Jack Munro wants to change that thinking.

“thinking about the transition zone as a defensive position is outdated today I’m going to teach you how to be aggressive in transition and take your opponents by surprise this is the blitz.” – (Munro)

The Blitz strategy involves quickly moving forward after a third shot or transition shot. Players aim to pressure opponents at the kitchen line before they can settle.

“I’m going to hit a third and then blitz the net… and jam my opponent in a tough spot.” – (Munro)

What Is “The Blitz” and How It Works

The Blitz is an aggressive move that starts with a topspin roll shot and ends with a fast flick. Munro described it as a “one-two punch,” saying, “the roll is going to be the setup shot and then the flick is going to be the KO.” He noted that the strategy is best for advanced players.

“I don’t think that anyone under a four five level should really start applying this because it does require a very consistent and successful aggressive roll.” – (Munro)

He uses it when his opponent is still moving up to the net and not fully set. That gives him more space to aim his roll shot to their feet.

Setting Up the Shot with the Roll

Munro explains the first step of the Blitz is hitting a quality roll shot. He adds topspin to make the ball dip at the opponent’s feet.

“I’m hitting it more of like a aggressive hybrid than I am a true drop it’s not coming in flat it’s coming in with top spin.” – (Munro)

He stressed the importance of moving forward after the shot.

“I’m rolling it and following it in I’m not hitting my roll and staying back… I hit this shot takes a split second to judge it and then I’m pushing myself in I’m blitzing the net.” – (Munro)

The KO Flick and Where to Aim

Once the roll shot is hit, the next step is the flick. Munro says it should be fast and aimed to jam the opponent.

“My mind is set on being aggressive and speeding this ball up.” – (Munro)

Most flicks are taken below the net level, and the goal is to force the opponent into a hand battle. The key target is the opponent’s body.

“They’re not expecting this ball and so what jamming looks like is Ethan is going to be opening forehand but sometimes sliding backhand and then getting jammed in this chicken type position.” – (Munro)

Keep Moving Forward Aggressively

In the Blitz, footwork is key. After the roll, players must keep moving toward the net.

“I’m always moving forward I’m not getting stuck in transition after I hit that roll… yes that does put me out of position it’s called a blitz for a reason.” – (Munro)

If the flick doesn’t win the point, it can still give the attacker an edge.

“If it jams him then that’s perfect now you’re just going to play cleanup… hopefully it should give you an advantage in this hands battle.” – (Munro)

Use Both Forehand and Backhand Rolls

While most players find the forehand roll easier, Munro says the backhand roll works too. It’s more natural to hit it crosscourt, but hitting it down the middle is also possible.

“You can still do it middle even though it’s going to be a little bit more uncomfortable.” – (Munro)

“That concludes this video of how to use the blitz it’s a very useful strategy especially when you don’t want to get in those more established kitchen rallies.” – (Munro)

Why This Strategy Matters

The Blitz changes how players use the transition zone in pickleball. Instead of waiting to reach the net to be aggressive, players can attack earlier and take control. The strategy works best for experienced players who can roll and flick with confidence. When done right, it can turn a disadvantage into a winning point.

News in Brief: Jack Munro’s Pickleball Blitz Strategy

Jack Munro introduces “The Blitz,” an aggressive pickleball tactic for skilled players to attack during the transition. By using a topspin roll and follow-up flick, players can jam opponents and start a hands battle before reaching the net.
