The Wilson Vesper Power 14 mm paddle is turning heads with its surprising performance. Kip, a paddle reviewer with a tennis background, tested it recently and was impressed by its control, spin, and feel. Though Wilson isn’t a common name in pickleball, this new paddle is gaining attention fast.
Kip admitted he had never played with a Wilson paddle before. He didn’t expect much when he opened the box, noting that it looked a little “cheap” and “gimmicky.” But after just a few hits, his opinion changed completely. “From the very first hit with this paddle, I was blown away,” he said.
Strong Build and Tech Features
The Wilson Vesper Power 14 mm combines features seen in other top pickleball paddles. It uses a 14 mm polypropylene core, carbon fiber surface with fiberglass underneath, and a bendable open throat called Free Flex Tech. Similar designs have been seen in Selkirk paddles.
The paddle measures 16.5 inches long and 7.25 inches wide. The grip is 5.25 inches long, with a 4.125-inch circumference. Kip noted, “It’s still got plenty of room for two-handers.”
It weighs 8.2 ounces, which Kip described as “my happy place.” He measured his serve speed with this paddle at an average of 50.8 mph. “That’s really good. Not extraordinary power, but really good,” he added.
Not Just Power—Surprising Control
Though the paddle is marketed as a power paddle, Kip found its accuracy and control to be the standout features. “You can really put this ball, just park it on a dime,” he said. He hasn’t tried the 16 mm version, which Wilson promotes for control, but found that the 14 mm version delivered excellent consistency too.
Kip said, “The Vesper Power 14 has great control, great accuracy, and good consistency.” He was surprised at how easily he could place shots and how fun it was to play with.
Great Spin, Feel, and Versatility
The paddle offers strong spin thanks to its surface design. “When it hits, it takes a bite,” Kip said. “You can top-spin this, you can slice it… and it’s all controllable.”
He liked the feel and feedback, noting a soft “click” sound on contact. The sweet spot is large, and performance stays strong even with off-center hits. It also transitions well from defense to offense, helped by the quick movement through the air due to its shape.
Kip said, “This paddle is quick at the net.” Its narrow width allows for fast reactions without sacrificing hitting area.
Customizable and Comfortable
The pickleball paddle is easy to customize with added weight if needed. It also fits two-handed players well. Kip praised how the handle allows enough space for another hand comfortably.
He shared that he gave the paddle to players in his advanced clinic, and “they absolutely loved it.”
Closing Thoughts
Kip was surprised and impressed by the Wilson Vesper Power 14 mm. He admitted he didn’t expect much but ended up loving it. “It just blew me away how good this paddle really is,” he said.
He encouraged others to try it and asked, “I’m anxious to hear if any of you guys have tried this.”
News in Brief: Wilson Vesper Power 14 mm Paddle
Kip reviewed the Wilson Vesper Power 14 mm paddle and found it excellent in control, feel, and spin, despite its high price. Though he had doubts at first, the paddle’s performance won him over. At $249, it’s not cheap—but Kip says it’s worth trying.
