How a Family Turned Pickleball Into the Ultimate Passport for Global Adventure

Scott Moore and his family have built Pickleball Trips, a business that takes people around the world to learn and play pickleball while exploring new cultures. Started in the mid-2010s, the company now offers guided tours in 20 countries. Each trip blends time on the court with unique travel experiences.

How Pickleball Trips Began

Scott Moore and his son Daniel first became known for winning pickleball championships across the United States. As the sport grew in places like Arizona and Florida, many people wanted to learn from them.

“People were just eating it up,” Scott Moore said about those early days.

After a successful clinic, Daniel Moore suggested they bring groups to Japan to play pickleball and explore the country. Scott Moore liked the idea since he had raised his family there.

“It was an interesting idea,” Scott Moore said. “I raised the kids in Japan and my wife and I spent 16 years there, so we knew the language and the culture.”

Their first trip hosted 13 travelers who toured Japan by bullet train and played pickleball in unique settings.

“We were riding the bullet train all over the country,” Scott Moore said. “We showed them more of Japan in a week than most tourists see in two months.”

When they returned, the travelers shared how much they enjoyed it, and the business was born.

A Family Operation with a Global Reach

Today, Pickleball Trips is run by Scott Moore, his three sons Jon Moore, Daniel Moore, and Stephen Moore, plus a small team. At first, they hosted large groups, but they decided to limit trips to 16 people to keep things personal.

“We don’t just teach pickleball,” Scott Moore said. “We engage with locals, take our groups on authentic excursions and create a community that’s about more than just the game.”

Trips include at least 9 hours of lessons and 5-10 hours of social play. In more intensive trips like the one planned in Belize for January 2026, players will stay in a beachfront home with 12 hours of instruction.

“In general, the more exotic the place we’re going, the less pickleball and more cultural immersion we’ll do,” Scott Moore said. “We still do excursions on the trips where we’re staying in one place, but those are definitely more pickleball intensive.”

Growth of Pickleball Worldwide

When they started, they often had to bring nets and set up courts themselves.

“We used to drag nets along and play on temporary setups in gyms or creative locations,” Scott Moore said.

Today, most countries have permanent pickleball courts or painted lines on tennis courts, especially in Asia. After many trips to Japan, they began hosting Japanese travelers in the United States for pickleball lessons and sightseeing.

Scott Moore said they plan to expand U.S. trips and clinics as interest grows in Europe and Asia.

“Our dream is just to help as many people as possible see the world and grow in their pickleball game,” Scott Moore said. “We want to be the premier pickleball experience, not the biggest. It’s just a reflection of who we are, and that’s what makes us different.”

Why This Matters

Pickleball Trips has helped connect people from different countries through sport and travel. As pickleball becomes more popular worldwide, the company plans to keep focusing on small groups and unique adventures. Their approach shows how sports can bring people together and create lasting memories.
