Game-Changer Outlawed: Why the JOOLA MOD TA-15 Pickleball Paddle Is Now Banned Nationwide

JOOLA MOD TA-15 Pickleball Ban: The JOOLA MOD TA-15 pickleball paddle, known for its powerful performance, has officially been banned from all USA Pickleball events starting July 1, 2025. The paddle gained fame quickly but was removed due to new rules meant to limit how much paddles can boost ball speed and power.

The paddle’s exit marks the end of a unique era in pickleball.

A Paddle That Changed the Game

The JOOLA MOD TA-15 became popular right after it launched in July 2024. It promised unmatched power while staying easy to control. Paddle reviewer Chris Olson of Pickleball Studio shared,

“The short and sweet of it is these are some of the most powerful paddles you can buy, the pop from counters is extremely aggressive, and it has a better sweet spot than most power paddles on the market.”

The MOD used JOOLA’s Propulsion Core, a design that made the ball launch off the face faster. This same core was in JOOLA’s earlier Gen3 Perseus paddles.

Early Trouble and Legal Battles

The Gen3 Perseus paddles faced big problems. In May 2024, USA Pickleball announced these paddles were not approved because the paddles sold to the public were different from the ones submitted for testing.

JOOLA responded by suing USA Pickleball. The company said,

“We firmly believe our Gen3 paddles are compliant with all applicable published rules and should not have been removed from the Approved Paddle List.”

In April 2025, USA Pickleball countersued, saying,

“JOOLA engaged in fraud by securing USAP’s approval for one set of paddles, while mass-producing and selling differently constructed paddles under the same name for a top-of-the-market price.”

The MOD’s Rise and Fall

After the Gen3’s issues, the MOD took the spotlight. Many players used it to hit faster shots and win points more easily. But the paddle also caused debates. Some felt it gave too much advantage and hurt fair play.

To address this, USA Pickleball created a new test called the Paddle/Ball Coefficient of Restitution, or PBCoR. This measured how much a paddle could bounce the ball like a trampoline.

The JOOLA MOD TA-15 did not pass this test. So USA Pickleball decided it would be phased out of competition.

What’s Next for Players

The MOD was one of several paddles added to the banned list. Others included:

  • JOOLA Perseus 14mm Mod TA-15

  • JOOLA Perseus 16mm Mod TA-15

  • Gearbox Pro Power Elongated

  • ProKennex Black Ace Ovation

  • ProKennex Black Ace Pro

  • ProKennex Black Ace XF

JOOLA did not oppose the ban this time.

Though the paddle is now gone from tournaments and most courts, it leaves behind a big impact. Players who owned it felt more confident, even unbeatable. Now, they will need to look for other paddles that meet the new rules but still bring strong performance.

News in Brief: JOOLA MOD TA-15 Pickleball Ban

The JOOLA MOD TA-15 paddle, famous for its power, is banned from all USA Pickleball play starting July 1, 2025. It failed new testing meant to stop “trampoline” effects. The paddle’s short run changed pickleball gear forever, but players must now switch to approved models.
