Emily Cederquist Fights Through Thrilling Matches and Sets Sights on Doubles Glory at Newport Beach Open

Emily Cederquist Newport Beach Open Journey: Emily Cederquist shared her experience at the 2025 Zimmer Biomet APP Newport Beach Open, where she competed in singles matches and prepared for doubles play. On July 3, 2025, she played several intense matches, practiced with Erik Lange, and stayed positive despite tough moments on the court.

Emily Cederquist explained that this event was special because it was her home tournament, the place where she won her first gold medal last year. She began her day early to avoid traffic and to get mentally ready for singles day, which she sees as a good warm-up for the rest of the week.

Early Morning Preparation and First Match

Emily Cederquist arrived at the venue before sunrise. She said, “Welcome to the 2025 Zimmer Biomet APP Newport Beach Open! I’m super excited because this is my home tournament. Last year, this is where I won my first gold medal, so trying to obviously do the same this week.”

In her first singles match, she battled through three long games. She shared, “I just finished my first singles match. It was so long I don’t even remember the score of the first game, and then I think I lost the second, 18-20 and then the third I won 17-15.”

Winning and Losing Close Matches

Later that morning, Emily Cederquist faced Domi and won 16-14 in the third game. She was pleased with her performance, saying, “I played really well. Felt like at the end, I was just executing shots well.”

In the quarterfinals, she faced Bobby and narrowly lost 14-16 in the third game. She stayed positive, explaining, “I did have a match point, but Bobby just hit a winner, so not too bummed about my loss. Kind of a win, win when you make it to the quarterfinals.”

Practice and Recovery in the Afternoon

After singles play, Emily Cederquist joined Erik Lange for doubles practice against Nicole Eugenio and Kyle Koszuta. She said they just wanted to “get a good sweat in, and get some doubles reps after a singles day.”

She also enjoyed a thoughtful surprise when Brandon Lane and Glauka brought her an iced matcha, which she called her favorite treat.

Reflecting on the Day and Looking Ahead

Emily Cederquist noticed her shoes were wearing out but made it through the matches. She said, “I pretty much put a hole in my shoe. As I was warming up this morning, I could feel the ground when I was hitting.” She planned to start fresh with a new pair the next day.

She ended her day feeling satisfied, ready to watch friends play, and excited for the rest of the tournament.

The Newport Beach Open continues through the weekend, giving Emily Cederquist more chances to play doubles and enjoy her home crowd. Her steady mindset and love for the sport will help her in the days ahead.
