UPA Asia YouGov Singapore Pickleball Boom: Asia is fast becoming the center of a pickleball boom. A new study by UPA Asia and YouGov Singapore shows that 1.9 billion people across Asia have heard about pickleball. Even more striking, 812 million people have played it at least once.
The research surveyed over 14,000 people from 12 countries, including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Record Numbers Compared to the United States
To understand how big this is, consider that the United States has about 340 million people. That means Asia has more than double the U.S. population playing pickleball.
Of those millions, 282 million people in Asia play pickleball at least once a month. That number is nearly as large as the total U.S. population.
Top Countries Leading the Sport
India has the most monthly players with 178 million people regularly picking up a paddle. China comes next with 60 million monthly players.
Vietnam shows the highest levels of awareness and participation. About 88% of people in Vietnam know about pickleball, and 37% play it often. This equals over 16 million frequent players in Vietnam.
Malaysia also ranks high, placing third among countries with the most DUPR users.
Future Growth and Global Impact
The report highlights a huge chance for brands, sports groups, and investors.
“Pickleball isn’t just a U.S. phenomenon—it’s a global movement,” the study stated.
There is rising demand for new courts, better coaching, and more equipment across Asia. Pickleball’s simple rules and low costs make it easy to start playing, especially in places with many people and fast-growing cities.
Opportunities on the Horizon
The spread of pickleball in Asia means more companies and groups will need to focus on the region. The sport’s growth also shows how it can cross cultures and bring communities together. The next chapter in pickleball history is clearly taking shape in Asia, where millions are joining the game and shaping its future.
