How Pickleball Sparked One Man’s 85-Pound Weight Loss and Life-Changing Comeback

Pickleball Journey Health Transformation: Ethan Noblesala, 32, made big changes to his life after his doctor warned him in November 2023 about serious health risks linked to prediabetes. The doctor told him, “If you don’t change your lifestyle, you’re going down a route that’s leading to more surgeries, more operations and more medication.”

Ethan Noblesala had been healthy in college, but running his business caused him to neglect his health. Long hours, poor sleep, and takeout meals led him to gain weight, reaching 235 pounds on his 5-foot, 6-inch frame.

He decided to take a break from work to focus fully on his health. This choice paid off—he lost 85 pounds and felt much younger.

Diet and Small Habits
Ethan Noblesala chose a high-protein, high-fiber, low-calorie diet and tracked everything he ate. He explained, “Your body needs nutrition, but I never felt like I was starving myself or restricting myself.”

He made gradual changes instead of trying extreme diets. He started by drinking a glass of water every day. He also shopped for groceries instead of ordering out five times a week. He prepared simple meals like shirataki noodles with chicken breast in low-fat buffalo sauce.

He replaced fast food with healthier options, such as Costco chicken nuggets. He shared, “I found it exciting to make these new discoveries. It’s something I love to do.”

Fitness Through Community
Ethan Noblesala began to rebuild his social life around sports. He often invited friends to play basketball or tennis. Through tennis, he discovered pickleball, which became his favorite sport.

He joined Life Time in December 2023 to stay active and connected. “One thing I appreciate there is the community. I get to play pickleball, my favorite sport,” he said.

Ethan Noblesala also added, “There are endorphins you get from exercising, from being around others and from having that community.”

Having friends at the gym helped him stay motivated. “My friends will say, ‘Ethan, I’ll see you tomorrow.’ And, of course, then I go after work. They’re expecting me,” he said.

He joined running clubs like Pitch & Run and is training for the New York City marathon this November with Chaminade High School, his alma mater. “I’m nervous for the marathon because I know it’s a daunting mental task. I’m focusing on the interval training and the strength training,” he said.

Sleep and Recovery
Before his lifestyle change, Ethan Noblesala barely slept. Now, he gets six and a half to seven and a half hours each night. “Your body needs to recover. I’m averaging six and a half to seven and a half hours of sleep a night now, and I definitely feel it when I don’t get seven hours of sleep,” he said.

He uses fitness trackers like an Apple watch, Whoop, and Oura ring to monitor his health. After an intense workout day, he checks the data to guide his recovery. “You can make these informed decisions with technology. It was harder to do this 10 years ago,” he said.

His journey shows that small, steady changes can lead to big results and a happier life.
