Pro Secrets Revealed: James Ignatowich’s Game-Changing Topspin Drop for Pickleball Mastery

Pickleball Topspin Third Shot Drop: Pickleball professional James Ignatowich is helping players master topspin with their third shot drop. In a new instructional video, he shares tips on paddle angle, body position, and timing to make this advanced shot more effective and harder for opponents to counter.

Why Topspin Works

James Ignatowich explains that while sliced drops have their place, topspin drops can be harder to return if executed well. When the ball bounces with topspin, it kicks forward, making it difficult to attack off the bounce.

“A top spin drop, if it bounces, it will be more effective because it will bounce and it’s going to go that way. It’s tougher to attack off the bounce,”.

Focus on Contact Point

One of the biggest mistakes players make is hitting the ball at its highest point after it bounces. This makes it harder to create the right arc over the net.

“So one key mistake with the top spin drop is players who are hitting the ball at the apex of the bounce. One issue with hitting it at the apex of the bounce is that you’re contacting it up here and it’s not as easy to get that arc on the drop.”

He emphasizes letting the ball drop a bit lower before contact to help create a better arc and land the shot in the non-volley zone.

A Controlled Approach

James Ignatowich uses humor to make the lesson approachable.

“That was actually pretty good, but don’t try to be like me,”

he said, reminding viewers that success takes practice.

He advises players to avoid sending the ball too high over the net and instead focus on control and spin.

Helping Players Improve

James Ignatowich’s video is part of a larger series that teaches players how to improve their topspin skills. He breaks down everything from how to hold the paddle to using your hands correctly. His teaching aims to help both beginner and advanced players sharpen their game.
