Foam-Core Pickleball Paddle Innovation: A new wave of pickleball paddles featuring foam-filled cores is hitting the market this July, as major brands introduce the next generation of performance equipment. These paddles aim to replace traditional polypropylene-core paddles and are designed to give players better control, spin, and durability.
New Technology Hits the Court
Most paddles have used polypropylene cores. But these can weaken over time due to repeated impact. Selkirk, a leading brand in the sport, is now using a material called PureFoam in its paddles.
“The core (PureFoam) represents a leap in paddle performance and durability, setting a new standard for what players can expect from their equipment,” said Selkirk.
Foam paddles are tougher and less likely to break down. The material also helps increase dwell time—the time the ball stays on the paddle—allowing for better spin and control.
How Foam Makes a Difference
The foam core adds strength and balance. It gives players both power and control. The thick core helps at the net and makes it easier to place shots. Players who prefer quick, powerful hits will also benefit from the paddle’s added strength.
These paddles also have a larger sweet spot, which means the ball bounces off the paddle more evenly. That helps players make better shots from any part of the paddle face.
